  2. Sturdy and exactly what I was looking for

Posted by Unknown on 22nd Sep 2017

I had a bit of an emergency while visiting a foreign country, my phone had broken and I was in need of a new one, as I would be staying there for quite some time. I got into contact with the staff, ordered the phone and had it only a few days straight to the country I was staying in. As for the phone itself the black colour is very nice looking, it comes in a carbon-fiber-esque design. While it is an easy to use phone, and a flip-phone at that, it has a wide range of uses and capabilities. It is running android, and the app store that can be included with it will allow you to download some of your favorite apps. The phone worked right out of the box, set to English with a few tweaks to my APN setup. Battery life is outstanding, and with heavy use it still lasts longer than any full-size smartphone I've ever owned; with little use it will last a few days. The user interface is well optimized and easy to navigate. I doubt I have discovered all of it's features as it certainly has a lot. Overall if you are looking for a sturdy, long-lasting, ultimately awesome looking and functional flip phone, the Sharp SHF31 is one that you should look into.

  4. Oh the nostalgia

Posted by Jellyphish on 21st Jun 2016

So I've waited a long time before writing this review because I've wanted to spend a lot of time really feeling out the phone. I've had this phone for a little over three months now.

First and foremost, Tominaga-san is the best. His customer service is above an beyond any other seller. He really goes out of the way to make sure you understand what you're buying and everything about the product to make sure it's working properly. He's amazing.

If you're looking into getting a keitai, know that it's a commitment. If you come from touch screens and 4gLTE, this switch is going to be hard. This keitai in particular is not touch screen. But the touchcruiser is great. It's akin to the blackberry cursor (except it's the whole surface of the keypad) if you want a comparison. This phone is also 4gLTE CAPABLE, but the bands won't match up in the US, so if speed is something you're used to, this phone is going to teach you patience.

A big reason I chose this phone over the other keitai available is the amount of internal storage. 8gb, well a little less due to general internal bulkware, but 8gb is a generous if you compare it to the other keitai here. Yes, you do have a microsd slot to expand on but if you like apps then this keitai gives you more leeway.

I have a love/hate relationship with texting on this phone. I love pressing the buttons. But, certain punctuation is a bit tedious. To put a space, you have to press zero 3 times, or you have to press the center button on the directional pad and then right. once you get used to it it's second nature, but a little tedious. This is because there are not spaces in Japanese, so this isn't something used often. Another one is a question mark. you can hit [0] a bunch of times until you hit it or hit [0] and then the [#] key until you get to it, or press the [camera] button and go to symbol and then look for it. It's a bit of a hassle to be honest, but I also text/message a lot so it might not be that way if you don't message too much.

Also, it might not be this way for other keitai, but the sms/email app is a hassle to use, and I recommend downloading a third party messaging app such as GOsms, just so you can get pop up messages. you always have to input the person you're sending if you're using the sms/email app on the phone and always find them in your address book, so it'll take awhile if you stick to it.

The camera on this phone is AMAZING. Granted, it doesn't have a front camera BUT the quality of the photos it takes is awesome. When I look at them online there they're really high quality and never grainy.

If you listen to music from your phone you're going to need to invest in some Bluetooth headphones because this doesn't have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, or you can get a converter from a microusb port to a headphone jack.

This keitai is extremely durable. I say this because I have no case on it and I'm not the best person at keeping my phone from falling in comparison to others, but its been 3 months and it looks brand new. I don't know what they're making these phones with but goodness I wish they used it on phones in the US because it's awesome. I know this phone is going to be a trooper.

A few small things if you decide to get this phone, the button under the directional pad is your [clear] button, it reads 'ku-ri-a' in katakana which is 'clear' in English. also if you hold the internet button or the button that looks like a globe, it will take you to your downloaded apps. It reads 'a-pu-ri' in katakana which is 'apps' in English. There's a button at the bottom left of the phone that can either take you to an 'all-view' of all apps opened if you just tap it, but if you hold the button you'll bring up the privacy screen, which is something that prevents people beside you from looking at your phone. You can adjust it in settings if you want to put it to use. Just a few tips on how to get around to everything easier. Tominaga-san does install a launcher on the phone to make the home screen more like an android which can be taken off if you don't want to use it but going through really setting that up will be too long. If you ever feel like you're having a hard time moving around, especially in downloaded apps, try activating the touch cruiser if it isn't already activated, which you can do by holding the call button.

Annnnnd, I'm sure those were the main points about the phone I wanted to hit. It's a great keitai, all your friends will think it's the coolest thing. I love using it, but I also think it's not for everyone and I wanted to show that in this review. I love this phone and I feel that it would be one of the better keitai to transition with if youre looking into getting one.
